Use the instructions for your own unit
Filter designs differ. Some can be washed; other filters require different care or replacement. Find your model’s operating manual before removing anything. Follow its power-isolation and access instructions, use stable access equipment, and stop if the filter cannot be reached safely.
Keep a simple routine
- Inspect accessible filters as often as your model manual recommends.
- Use the cleaning method specified for that filter.
- Let washable filters dry as directed before refitting them.
- Keep air inlets and outlets clear of furniture and stored items.
- Note unusual noise, odour, weak airflow or water leaks for the technician.
Frequency depends on use
Heavy use, dust and the surrounding environment can change how quickly a filter becomes dirty. Manufacturer guidance is more useful than one interval applied to every property. ENERGY STAR also recommends regular equipment checks by a contractor alongside routine filter attention.
A filter wash is not a complete internal clean
The filter is only one part of the air path. The evaporator coil, blower and drainage area may still need attention. Do not spray water into the unit or dismantle electrical components as routine household cleaning.
Tell us what has changed
A clean filter does not rule out a technical fault. If cooling or airflow remains poor, send us the symptoms, model number and last service date. A HydroKleen visit includes assessment and checks around the cleaning work, with remaining issues explained to you.
